Fused Silica Specifications to Confirm Before You Order

A fused silica order is easier to check when the grade, the form, the chemical limits and the particle size are written down before offers are compared. Figures described as typical are only a basis for discussion. The values for the quoted lot are the ones on the COA or the quotation.

Confirm the grade and the form

State whether you need A Grade or B Grade, and whether the material is sand, grain or powder. Those choices change which chemical figures are usually discussed. Buyers often send the grade and the form with the first enquiry, and they can check the technical data for fused silica while they prepare it.

Write the SiO2 and impurity limits

Give the SiO2 minimum you accept and any impurity limits that apply to your use. Typical A Grade figures are SiO2 99.9% min, Fe2O3 ≤ 100 ppm, Al2O3 ≤ 200 ppm, Na2O/K2O ≤ 100 ppm, MgO ≤ 200 ppm, CaO ≤ 100 ppm and magnetic material ≤ 50 ppm. Typical B Grade figures are SiO2 99.8% min for grains and SiO2 99.7% min for powder, Fe2O3 ≤ 200 ppm, Na2O ≤ 200 ppm and magnetic material ≤ 100 ppm. Compare the chemical analysis for the quoted lot with the specification agreed for the quoted lot.

Name the particle size

Send a millimetre range or a mesh code. A form name alone does not fix the grading. You can review the particle size examples as sizes that can be discussed. The quotation confirms the size for the order. A listed size is not a statement that it is in stock.

Compare the COA with the agreed specification

When a lot is offered, compare the COA with the specification you agreed. Buyers sometimes also record physical figures. Typical values for A Grade and B Grade are bulk density 2.18-2.20 g/cm3, pH about 6, melt point 1750°C, softening point 1650°C, thermal expansion 5×10^-7 per °C, amorphous content above 99% and crystalline content below 1%. Those figures, like the chemical limits, are confirmed on the COA or the quotation for the quoted lot.

Shenzhen Zhixin New Materials Co., Ltd. can review the grade, the form, the size and the documents you ask for on the order. Packing and any trial quantity are confirmed on the quotation.
